Successful Christmas Parade 11 December 2009
The Paihia Christmas Parade organised by Business Paihia was a huge success with hundreds of happy spectators lining the streets to Santa flying in by helicopter to meet his sleigh, the theme was a Sporty Christmas and over 20 floats decked themselves out with innovative ideas, fromcricket, cheerleaders and wakas to the latest fitness craze- the Zumba!
Opua Playgroup won the best Community Float, with Opua School second and Paihia School third. Base Pipi Patch Backpackers took out the best Business Float, followed closely by Kingsgate Autolodge Paihia and Kiwicare. One of the 3 judges Michelle Pickering said “it was an awesome parade with so much effort going into the floats that it made judging a tough job - the floats seem to be getting more impressive each year”
It was a festive atmosphere with Santa’s lolly’s scramble, a prize for every child that dressed up, and lots of activities on the Village Green.
