Ambassador Scheme in Paihia. Northern Advocate 9 December 2009

A volunteer ambassadors scheme is starting up in Paihia to protect tourists from crime _ and safeguard the Bay of Islands’ biggest industry.
The scheme is an extension of Paihia’s Community Patrol, in which volunteers have been keeping an eye on the town’s streets at night for the past 2 years.
Now a grant from the Ministry of Justice means the group can expand into daytime work geared at helping tourists.

Successful Christmas Parade 11 December 2009

The Paihia Christmas Parade organised by Business Paihia was a huge success with hundreds of happy spectators lining the streets to Santa flying in by helicopter to meet his sleigh, the theme was a Sporty Christmas and over 20 floats decked themselves out with innovative ideas, fromcricket, cheerleaders and wakas to the latest fitness craze- the Zumba!

Adriana Rogowski organised a clean up in Paihia among the hostels - there was a good turnout and a 10 bags of rubbish and 10 bags of recycling in just 1 and a half hours!

Record Breaking Blue Marlin coming to Paihia

The Bay of Islands Swordfish Club, Paihia Club House is very honoured to be given the opportunity to mount the New Zealand record breaking Blue Marlin 483.4kgs (1065.7LBS), caught north of Houhora earlier this year by Ross Jameson of Whangarei on the vessel Harlequin, a Bay of Islands Charter boat owned and operated by John Douglas.

TRUST A TRIBUTE TO ROBIN THORIN

Family and close friends of the late Robin Thorin have established a charitable trust in his memory. Robin was tragically killed on his bicycle in a traffic accident near Matauri Bay at the young age of 26 almost two years ago.
